This work titled «Problèmes de production orale des apprenants du
français langue étrangère (FLE) : le cas des apprenants de A.B.U.,
Zaria» is aimed at identifying the underlying root causes of oral
expression difficulties that is a major challenge among the majority of
Nigeria French Language students taking as case study the students of
Ahmadu Bello University. To arrive at the set objective, we adopted a
quantitative and qualitative approach by means of questionnaires and
interview. The research findings showed that most French language
students are indeed confronted with difficulties in oral expression such
as lack of confidence in speaking, grammatical problem especially that
of conjugation of verbs, poor vocabulary, wrong articulation of words,
wrong sentence structure and lack of comprehension. According to our
investigation, factors responsible for the identified problems can be
classified into three, namely; psychological state of the students,
foundational problems and linguistic environment. The research therefore
proffers practical solutions through which the students‟ challenges can
be resolved to a significant level. In that perspective, the students,
the teachers, the institution as well as the government all have various
roles to play.
