ABSTRACT
The North Bank part of Makurdi which is about a quarter of the whole of Makurdi is an area which is in a pathetic situation. It is really adsorb that a community which has a projected population of 30,000 in the year 2,000 AD has not been given any thought about the provision of the necessary components that are commensurate with this status. This part of the town has some unique features that should be considered. The bottleneck of access to facilities in the main town is most grievous. One wastes nothing less than one hour if one wants to post a letterβ€ž As if that is not enough one has to spend an extra amount of one Nair a to do this. If one wants to post a letter and prodded to the bank then to the market and back home one surely has to spend the whole day and a lot of money on transportation. I have chosen this unique opportunity to contribute in a small way to the development of this part of Makurdi. This is a unique opportunity because the site is ideal (centrally located) and it folios the dictates of the theory behind the design of a Community Building Complex. (ii) The site measure; approximately 250M x 200M ie 5 Hectares. It is at the junction of the two busy roads in the district providing good mass movement of people to the center. SCOPE The scope of the design is such that the individual components are designed to architectural scale and only one of them (the Mufti-purpose Hall) is drawn in details. This is because of the limitation of time. The planning of the whole components to make the centre is an equally important, (if not more) factor in the Thesis. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES GOALS 1. To make the Benue State Government aware, by presenting my design to them, of the need for such a complex. 2. To act as a place of socio-cultural integration of the community regardless on ones class, believe or nationality. 3. To generate income for the government by rental feedback's. 4. To give a healthy environment for a clean competition between workers of the same profession. 5. To create a place where people will want to go, not simply because they can get free services but because it is a comfortable, familiar, friendly and exciting place to be.
