ABSTRACT
The Hadith of the Prophet (SAW) is the seeond source of the Islamic guidance and legislation, and therefore has a very important impact in the life of the Muslim. This shows clearly the importance of the knowledge of Hadith in Islam. Right from the time of the Sahaba (RAA) scholars have given tremendous concern to the Hadith of the Prophet (SAW), but with the contact of Islam with the Western world a new phase of history began, where the Orientalists started to study the original sources of Islam with the aim of intentional destruction. For this, it is mandatory for Muslims in general and especially their scholars to give special attention to the knowledge of Hadith, particularly the issue of conflicts arising in some texts of the Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW). This study is an attempt to evaluate the Ahadith of the Prophet (SAW) that have conflicts in their meanings or interpretations, taking Ahadith of Bulughul Mardm min Adillatil Ahkdm as a sample for the study. Out of the total ninety-nine (99) Chapters in the book comprising one thousand five hundred and ninety-six Ahadith, seven hundred and twenty-five Ahadith in thirtyfour chapters were sampled and analysed for the study. Three instruments namely al-Jam'u baynan Nusus (Harmonizing between texts) at-Tarjih (Preponderance) and an-Naskh (Abrogation) were used in testing the sampled Ahadith. In the study, thirty six cases of conflicts were observed involving a total number of ninety seven Ahadith, out of which nineteen cases were, resolved through al-Jam'u (Harmonizing), thirteen cases through at-Tarjih (PrejyoAderMfcef and four cases through an-Naskh (Abrogation), this reveals that all cases of conflict in the Ahadith of the Prophet (SAW) are deemed to be instances of apparent conflict, not genuine, which is lacking in reality and substance. Summary, conclusion and some vital recommendations were given at the end
