ABSTRACT
This study delves into the framework of Financial Intermediation in Nigeria with the broad intention of tracing the historical nucleus, the nature and modality of its present day operations and researching for a suggestive improvement to the historical system into a modernistic outlook. An evaluation, is made of some financial institutions that can be considered as paradigms in this field with the primary objective of capturing their positive contribution(s) or otherwise to the financial sector's micro and Nigerian macro economy. Also to ascertain the relationship between Time Interest Earned Ratio and the Loans/Advances given by the banks. The parameters of measurement have been unified in order to eliminate unnecessary distortions and to produce results that, can be relied upon, but this is neither an inter firm comparison nor an economic sector analysis, as such study will be wider than this academic exercise for an academic purpose. This is simply to provide an insight into what goes on in this segment of the monetary and fiscal economy and to inter-marry it with theory, concept and practice and to make suggestions for improvement. It is concluded with the suggestive ideology that financial intermediation should be properly interwoven with other economic sectors to produce the required synergy for a proper economic base and a solid financial sector that will provide the much desired debt/equity on which modern economics revolve and thrive.
