ABSTRACT
Our prime objectives in carrying out this study have been to explore the prospects and problems, substance and viability of a privatized and commercialized media using Minaj systems television Obosi as our case study.
The opinions of broadcasting media audience and media practitioners on the issue of privatization and commercialization of electronic media in Nigeria were collected randomly through interviews of people living in Obosi and environs.
From the research conducted, it is obvious that Nigerians are in support of privatization and commercialization of broadcasting media. It was discovered that inspite of our socio-political and economic situation, privatized and commercialized broadcasting media can thrive well have in Nigeria, showing that Nigeria is ripe to embark on this great venture hastily our research shows that privatization and commercialization of electronic media will breed better news/programmes (as a result of competition between media houses) and a boost in our economy. It will also quicken the attainment of a democratic nation (democratic Nigeria). The researchers suggested a way through which the newly privatized station especially Minaj systems television will take in order to achieve more audience satisfaction.
This work however has some limitations in that it did not cover most of the newly privatized media in other parts of Nigeria but based its survey mostly in Minaj system television Obosi.
As a guide to the study, four hypotheses were formulated and subjected to test. The result showed that Nigerians are in full support of the newly privatized and commercialized electronic media.
