THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES

(A CASE STUDY OF IKEUDO ENUGU SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT)

ABSTRACT

The aim of this project was to find out the role of Ijeudo (Enugu South) women cooperative society development of Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State.  The subject matter use of the study consisted of four hundred and ninety nine women cooperative from six registered women cooperative in the same local government sample size was use din selecting these four hundred and ninety nine cooperative from the population of the six registered local government.  Questionnaire and oral interview were the major instrument used for the study.
A total of 550 questionnaires were administered to registered numbers of cooperative societies, of this number’s 499 were completed and returned, one more questionnaire was administered to the divisional cooperative officers in Enugu South Local Government Area.  He also stressed on the need for the cooperative officers in Enugu South Local Government Area encouraging the women to invest more on productive ventures there are more collection of individual loans from the cooperative.  This will help provide employment opportunities for the members of the people of Enugu South in general.
