ABSTRACT
A non-circula r borin g attachmen t ha s been developed . It consist s of a hydrauli c power system in th e form known a s TKBIO Copying Unit variou s individua l templates, and a chai n driv e power transmissio n system. Power is tappe d from th e lath e spindl e usin g a-frictio n clutc h , t o driv e th e templat e t o actuat e th e hydrauli c power system and consequentl y th e borin g tool . The attachmen t ha s been teste d and differen t shape s o f non-circula r bore s o f uniform cross sectio n have been produced . Surfac e finis h o f th e produced bores, too l vibration s and cuttin g force s whil e machinin g wit h th e attachmen t have been measured , presente d and analysed . The surfac e finis h o f th e produced bore s compare favourabl y t o th e genera l practica l value s obtaine d from borin g operations. Tool vibration s whil e machinin g wit h th e attachmen t ar e generall y highe r a t th e star t o f non-circula r borin g tha n a t full-shap e profil e rnachining . I n al l instance s vertica l vibration s o f th e too l increas e wit h increas e i n spindl e speed o r dept h o f cu t o r feed rate . The cuttin g force s and th e computed machinin g power ar e generall y simila r t o what is obtaine d durin g conventiona l cylindrica l borin g o n th e lathe . The experiments have proved tha t th e attachmen t ca n b e used t o effectivel y produc e good qualit y non-circula r bore s o n t h e lath e a t spindl e speed s u p t o 180 rev/min .
