ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to investigate the promotion and utilization of electronic information resources in Federal Colleges of Education Libraries in North Western States of Nigeria. In order to achieve this objective, five (5) research questions were formulated and the research questions sought to find out the types of e resources available, promoted and utilized in Federal Colleges of Education libraries in North Western States of Nigeria, the promotional media and strategies employed to enhance the utilization of e resources, the extend of utilisation as well as the challenges encountered in utilizing the available e resource. The hypothesis used was: the promotion of e resources in Federal Colleges of Education libraries has no significant influence on their utilization the hypothesis was tested at 0.05. Survey method was employed in the conduct of this study. The total number of 130 (92.7%) representing the 30% of the total population of library customers and library staff in the Federal Colleges of Education Libraries in North Western States (FCE Kano, Katsina and Zaria) were used for this study. The data collected for the study were presented and analyzed using both descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Frequency distribution tables, percentages and chart were also used for the descriptive statistics while chi square was used to test the hypothesis formulated among the respondent of the Federal Colleges of Education Libraries in North Western States. The study found out about that HINARI, AGORA, AJOL, and DOAJ were the types of electronic information resources available are promoted and also utilized in the Federal Colleges of Education Libraries in North Western State. Library orientation and notice board were the employed to promote the use of e-resources in the Federal Colleges of Education Libraries in North Western States. The study recommended that the Federal Colleges Libraries in North Western States of Nigeria should subscribe more-resources and the college libraries should be upgraded with modern information technology facilities such as wifi access, printer, scanner generators and also the college libraries should use different media and strategies such as social media and electronic advertisement to promote their information resources especially electronic information resources in order to increase awareness of electronic information resources among the users of Federal Colleges of Education Libraries in North Western States of Nigeria.
