ABSTRACT

The study entitled "Influenced of Millennium Development Goal‟s interventions and the Attainment of Universals Basic Education in Kaduna State" was informed by the concerned on education that necessitated about one hundred and eighty-nine (189) head of states and Governments from various Nations to consider "Basic Education" and set it as the second goal amongst the eight goals arrived at during the millennium summit held in New York, U.S.A. It was against the forgoing background that the study focuses on Basic Education in Kaduna State with the sole aim of unveiling the extent to which the state government was committed to the provision of Basic Education to its citizenry and further, outline the challenges impeding the attainment of this time bound goal "Achieving Universal Basic Education" in the state as contained in goal two (2) of the MDGs‟ eight (8) goals.

Data for the study were collected from both Primary and Secondary sources. The primary source comprises the use of questionnaire, interview and observation, while the secondary source consists of textbooks, journals, thesis, Manuals, and other unpublished materials. Descriptive and inferential statistical tools were used for data presentation and analysis. The Chi-square (x2), non parametric tool was used for the analysis of data and testing of the hypotheses. From the presented and analyzed data, it was found among others that; instructional materials and facilities are absent in some schools, to some there are a lot of inadequacies, while others with the facilities available, are observed to be obsolete and cannot meet the realities of present day learning.

It was further revealed that; infrastructural facilities such as classrooms, laboratories, toiletries, are highly inadequate while the existing ones are dilapidated. These problems are unanimous in the three local government areas of Jama‟a, Kaduna South, and Zaria Local government areas respectively. It was also revealed that the education sector was grossly underfunded in the respective education department of the LGEAs. The analysis of data reveals the present of the activities of MDGs in the state and the local government education authorities.

Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that; government at all levels should step-up deliberate effort to increase funding to the education sector, and in doing this budgetary allocation to education sector should be reviewed upward to a mandatory given percentage that all levels of government i.e Federal, State and Local government must comply with. Finally, managers of the education sector should be professionals and not political allies and/or loyalists to the leader at the top.
