ABSTRACT

Today, more than ever before, petroleum resources has been recognised as the basis of economic and social progress of most nations. Nigeria has been blessed with abundant deposits of this resources and the important role which this sector plays in our economy is greatly being realised. It is the leading sector and the mainstay of our economy and thus described as the "CASH COW" of the government. However, inspite of this impetus in the petroleum sector, Nigeria continues to experience serious scarcity and irregular supply of these petroleum products. While some attributed the problem to lack of availability of the prodcuts, others pointed at inadequate and ineffective distribution system. Since Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) is one of the petroleum product and serves as an alternative source of energy and power to both Domestic and Industrial applications, the knowledge of how it is marketed should be of great interest to all and sundry. It is agaisnt this background that the topic "Marketing Liquified Petroleum Gas in Nigeria: A case study of selected Marketers and Dealers in Kaduna metropolis" is not only relevant but timely. This is because efficient marketing of the product will help offer satisfaction to the consumers, increase profits and stimulate the economy. A descriptive survey research design was used for the study and data collected were analysed by the use of simple percentages in order to answer the research questions which are the objectives of the study. The study has shown that there is generally acute scarcity and irregular supply of the product by the refineries which in most cases are not functioning due to lack of adherence to the T.A.M (Turn Around Maintenance. This results in high cost of the product to the final consumer. A recommendation for stable and servicable refineries was made to the government to ensure constant supply of the product.
