PREFACE
A new machine/equipment will provide satisfactory service, if kept in proper operating condition. The inevitability of less than 100% reliability of way machine/equipment after some period of operation ultimately necessitates its repair and maintenance.
Also in system of any complexity, certain replacement/adjustment are necessary at various stages. Thus vital consideration in the design of the components and equipment of a system in the question of how quickly and easily a unit in that system can be adjusted or repair.
Repair or rehabilitation simply means to restore to good condition, make over in a newform or to renovate. The repair and rehabilitation of a machine in the mechanical Engineering department of this institute is of utmost importance considering the number of machine that are less or now functional. Its quite unlike yester yeas when it was an easy task to recommend newly produced machine.
The habit of replacement of faulty machines with new one rather than repairing them should be discouraged. The ownership of these machine/ equipment should be a never ending source of satisfaction and pleasure and so, effort should be made to reactivate them.
Historically/rehabilitation of machine or equipment has tended to be an emerging service performed in an ad-hoc faction largely concerned with getting broken-down machine back into service as soon as possible. These should not be done thoroughly and perfectly. Unfortunately the climate in West Africa causes rapid determination in all metal object sensitive to high ambient temperature machines and tools are no exception.
