ABSTRACT
This thesis is a report on the design of a high-level programming language for microcomputers, and its associated cross-compiler. The cross-compiler is resident on the University mainframe, and was developed for an M6800 microcomputer. Chapter 1 discusses microprocessors and microcomputers, to establish the appropriate background and to show the need for a high-level language for microcomputer software development. Programming languages are discussed in Chapter 2, and the language MULANG I is described. In Chapter 3, the structure of a cross-compiler is presented and its workings described. Chapter 4 discusses the implementation of a cross-compiler for MULANG I, while Chapter 5 contains some conclusions and suggestions for further work. An Appendix describes the target M6800 microcomputer system.
