ABSTRACT
This
dissertation attempts to study some stylistic features of the Arabic
poetry of Jamil Muhammad Sadis; a contemporary young Nigerian poet who
lives in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The importance of this research was
derived from the fact that the works of the poet were original and
virgin on which no research was carried out before in spite of their
quality. The work gives the biography of the poet and a detailed
evaluation of his literary works. The theory of Stylistics, its major
areas and relationship to literature were also thoroughly discussed. In
chapter five, the poems were studied in the light of some of the major
stylistic theories notably: Intertextuality, Repetition and Deviation.
The nature and the application of such theories were duly discussed as
they occur in the poems; they were elaborately with critical judgments
passed on them in the light of fundamental objectivity of stylistics.
The study was then summarized and the findings showed that the poet‟s
mindset was influenced by his training as a specialist in the Quran
Sciences. His stay for more than a decade in an Arabic-speaking
community has also shaped his linguistic expertise and gave him a simple
form of language with eloquence and a clear style. His employment of
stylistic features in the poems which was as a result of his contact
with the works of classical and modern Arabic poets and his aspiration
for perfection in his composition has given his works a great value in
terms of literary excellence. His diverse training helped him in having a
refined imagination.
