ABSTRACT
This research examined some factors responsible for student dropout from secondary school in Ezza South. Four research questions were formulated to guide the study. A self-structured questionnaire tagged factors responsible for students dropout questionnaire (FRSDQ) was used to elicit information from the respondents. The instrument was face validated by three test experts in Enugu state university. Through the split-half method, the reliability of the instrument was ascertained. The population of the study comprised 150 secondary school teachers in (14) fourteen secondary schools in Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. A sample of 150 teachers was used. The researcher studied the entire population, since the population of this study is not too large so there was no sampling. Mean (x) statistics was used to analyze the data gathered. A descriptive research design was adopted in this study. The findings among others shows that illiterates parents see their children’s education as a waste of time. Other findings include parents inability to provide school materials needed in school for their children, poor teacher/students to secure gainful employment after secondary education. All there constitute the major factors responsible for students dropout of secondary schools. Based on the above the following recommendations were suggested. Government should provide tree and compulsory primary and secondary education to alleviate the suffering of poor parents. Government should create job opportunities for students who have graduated from various levels of education among other and conclusion reached.
