Communication, be it verbal or non verbal, has remained a powerful instrument for expressing the cultural identity of a given society. This is why it is often difficult to have two languages sharing the same cultural expressions especially in non verbal communication; hence, culture and language have left a little or no distinctive conscious nuance.Non verbal communication is expressed through gestures, the clothes we wear, distance between individuals, and paralanguage.This work titled “Etude comparée de la communication non verbale en français et en tiv » (A Compartive Study of Non Verbal Communication in French and Tiv) brings to foreas objective,the similarities and differences that exist in the non verbal communication of French and Tiv people. This is to examine the place of non verbale communication in Tivin a society where western culture has a lot of influences on the culture of the tiv people, and the danger of the culture going into extinction.The work, praxis on semiotic approach, observation and interview techniques, concludes that there exist some similarities in non verbal communication among French and Tivpeople like rising up the hand during salutation, expression of sadness and joy.
